Somatic
Grace Barnard is a multidisciplinary artist from Laois.
Works across drawing, painting and sculpting to explore her interests in the human condition. Her practice explores the complex nature of symbiotic relationships and systems, where she aims to explore how we are formed by consuming parts of those around us, what it is to be known and who are we if not consumed. Somatic exist as fragments of possible systems, spiritual or psychological. Have relationships with one another, where the consequence is implied but never resolved.
Grace works in collaboration with the material, employing the processes of heating, cooling, pressing, molding, and casting. Taking material and manipulating it to create a work in flux with tension, where the true source of tension lies in the eyes of the observer who comprehends the potential risks and has previous experiences to draw upon.
Grace would like to acknowledge Fay Schuch and Pat Biesty for providing the beeswax and her dad for the sleeper wood.
