Delicacy

Much of my motivation and influence comes from fashion magazines and Instagram and I want to portray this through my work by applying my understanding of the complex issues surrounding the representation of women and body image today in social media and magazines through abstraction and distorting an image. Doing this creates a new image from one that already exists but creates a different motive and experience.

I want to create art that emits bold energy and is intended to draw the viewer in with such bright colours and sweeping strokes. I work based on instinct and from the heart, my work comes from a place of vulnerability and honesty. I create images and paint what I feel, with the belief that the emotions displayed are universal ones experienced by all.

My work differs from that of traditional portraiture as I am taking an abstract approach to my work and utilising different media’s to create abstract portraits.

The way in which I make my work is that I overlap images of female representations from magazines in which I believe to find appealing to the eye and then layer them over each other creating a collage. In the images the overlapping parts where both images collide turns to a negative and create abstract colours. This method creates an image where we turn a blind eye to the Skin colour or physical attributes of the women from the magazines and look at the image as more of an artwork.

The use of a variety of mediums including spray paint, oil paint, pencil and acrylics helps to craft mystifyingly surreal, rich-coloured paintings of the female form. Layering these images and painting from them in the hope to create something that is truly eye-catching and aesthetic.
