‘Hall of Faye’ a project based around female body image, exploring the influence of social media in particular Instagram on young females today. Celebrities and social media influencers appear to have quite a profound influence on young people when it comes to appearance. The use of photoshop apps and filters is continuing to create a false reality for young people viewing Instagram content as they see these perfect hour glass shapes and air brushed skin. This may affect the viewers self-esteem as we really don’t know what has gone on behind the scenes before a photo reaches our news feeds. For my project, I photographed the female body looking into mirrors appearing not too satisfied with the reflection looking back at her. Adding in the celebrity or Influencers body and appearance she may prefer to see in the mirror instead as a result of scrolling down her news feed. I created a series of paintings relating to this idea, incorporating collage and mirrors.
