Feminality

Aisling’s work is a celebration of women and the feminist movement. She uses colours, such as pink, and techniques that are stereotypically associated with women to create empowering feminist pieces. Embroidery is a typical “woman’s task” that is incorporated throughout her work, reclaiming the stereotype while creating a female language in her paintings. Aisling explores what it means to be a woman in today’s world through text and imagery associated with feminism and womanhood.

Aisling draws inspiration from women’s issues for her work, such as the #MeToo movement, the fight for equal rights and body autonomy. Iconography also plays a role in Aisling’s practice. Representations of women through symbols associated with feminality can be seen in Aisling’s work.

Aisling belongs to a generation of women that is not afraid to speak out and stand up against misogyny and the patriarchal system. She does this throughout her work by creating a dialogue in her paintings that she hopes inspires and empowers women.
