I used the research I gathered on Antoni Gaudi, biomimicry and circular design to create a collection that was deep rooted with sustainable ideologies. Using Antoni Gaudi as a primary source, for his aesthetics and biomimicry principles.
Biomimicry is a practice that learns from the strategies used by living organisms to solve challenges comparable to the ones we face as individuals and societies. The benefit is that nature presents us with many strategies far better at working harmoniously with the rest of nature than many human developed strategies have been. The goal then is to create products, processes, and systems that solve our greatest design challenges sustainably and in harmony with all life on earth.
I broadened my knowledge on how to create something completely circular. I created a knitwear collection that was an intersection of manmade and the natural world. A Symbiosis of human design and nature. My collection incorporated natural dying, modular designs, regenerated fibers, designing for biodegradability and zero-waste construction. This variety of techniques all helped both my design work and the message behind my collection, both aesthetically and functionally.
Tread Lightly is a third year mini collection consisting of two looks that explore the relationship between fashion, nature, and sustainability. Rooted in the concept of transparency and the natural world, this project uses delicate, lightweight fabrics to embody an airy, ephemeral quality—echoing how nature leaves only a light
footprint. Inspired by flowers and natural forms, each piece in the collection has been created using eco-conscious techniques. I used eco-printing with real plant materials, homemade natural dyes, and hand-carved lino prints made from non-toxic
ingredients. The central goal of Tread Lightly is to create garments that are as biodegradable as fallen petals—designed to break down and return to the earth rather than contribute to
waste. This collection invites the viewer to reconsider what fashion can be: transparent in its process, natural in its materials, and gentle in its environmental impact.
