Bad Habits are often deeply ingrained behaviours that can disrupt our daily lives. My practices explore habits that I struggle with and the habits of others such as biting, itching, pulling and picking of nails, lips, hair and skin. The work explores these habits being exaggerated and causing harm to the body such as bleeding, irritation and tears to the skin. The themes that lie within the work are the grotesque body and the concept of abjection. The abject refers to anything that is simultaneously repulsive and fascinating, provoking a visceral reaction such as horror and nausea. Through my practice, I mostly work with photography, moving image and printmaking, especially silk screening. My main aim is to create pieces of work that the viewer find discomfort in when viewing.
