Talking is a short film that takes place in a fleeting moment when grief is forgotten. What happens when that moment breaks, and memory returns?

The film explores Aisling and Craig’s relationship as they are getting ready for a film premiere, their familiarity and banter revealing their deep connection. As they talk, insecurities take hold of the conversation, upsetting the rhythm and leading them to a sudden confrontation with reality. This film is interested in how grief affects us, not as a constant, but as something that comes and goes without explanation. It  looks at how loss can interrupt presence in the most ordinary of moments. Rather than showing the sadness that is left with grief, Alan chose to use a tonal shift to convey the disorientation that sudden loss can cause. This reflects the characters’ pause as they are forced to reconcile with the reality they had briefly escaped.
