‘Ireland this Year’

In the mid nineteen twenties, two landscape paintings of Connemara and Lough Derg by the visual artist Paul Henry, were adapted as holiday posters of the West of Ireland. The posters were mass produced, advertised and sold in railway stations across Britain. Henry’s sublime image of the West continues to inform the Irish Tourist Authority’s enterprise for the region.

This digital work is a case study that aims to both emulate and dissect Henry’s performed image of the West of Ireland. The display is multifaceted. Computer software charts visual and contextual data gathered from two sites in Ireland’s west where Henry possibly painted.
