Wasted Youth

This project is complex in nature. I have been examining how our youth culture uses escapism as a coping mechanism for everyday life, one of these mechanisms which I have focused on is self-medication through drugs and alcohol.
Through the process of silkscreen printing, I have been making a body of work that emulates propaganda and pop art style imagery.
This is an attempt to influence the way in which the general populous view and glorify the use of drugs in main stream media and music. Drugs, like sex, have been known to be a very persuasive element in the act of selling something, whether it be music, films, books etc. The influence of musicians, such as Lil Peep and artists, such as Dash Snow are heavily influencing behavioural trends of a youth culture. This promotes an ethos in the mindset of these vulnerable groups to take prescription and non-prescription drugs as a form of self-medication.
This work questions our awareness around the major influencing factors that the media can project onto a disaffected youth with the growingly widespread availability of alcohol and drugs.
