How far do prayers go?

“How far do prayers go?” is a recent body of work influenced by symbols of faith and the phenomena of apparitions. With Amy’s own experiences and curiosity with faith; she is drawn to places of worship and one’s personal beliefs. The artist reimagines the concept of apparitions through an expressive color palette, symbolic materials and abstract forms. Through the process of dipping painted fabric in candle wax gathered from a local church, she creates draped arrangements and “veil” like objects in response to the mystery of spiritual appearances. With gestural marks and brush strokes visible throughout the works; the artist conveys techniques influenced from action painting and abstract expressionism which allows her personal freedom and translates self-expression while creating. Repurposing the melted candle wax; perhaps demonstrates a visual documentation of prayers and their anonymity. In the remnants, each wick representing a prayer, invites us to reimagine prayers of worries, hopes and joys once again.
