This body of work which I have entitled ‘Leave the Light On’ is a visual autobiography of my 24 years of life. While producing this work I realised that it was not only about representing my life but also about representing my journey to find a place where I call home. I have always been searching for that place and continuously remembered the saying ‘leave the light on for me to find my way home.’ This aspect of my journey has been represented by the signpost and the lamppost. I have created a multitude of images representing different memories that have resonated in my mind throughout my life. These images are presented in the style of Polaroid photographs to represent the memory aspect of this body of work. Accompanying a select number of images are specific scents that relate to each selected image. I found that scents were an important part of this work as I wanted to fully immerse the viewer into the experience and as scents are believed to be the strongest memory trigger. Each scent may trigger a memory for each viewer or may immerse them into the image they are viewing.
