Flowers are seen as delicate, beautiful and fragile things that are too innocent to cause any harm. Keelan Murray’s work researches flowers that are beautiful but are poisonous and can even be deadly. She was inspired to use these flowers when her research led her to the stories of the mythical creatures called Sirens. These creatures were known to lure men to water with their beauty and voice and drown them. Beauty can also be a danger as well as a weapon as seen with the femme fatale. She presents several poisonous flowers, some that are extravagant and some that are flowers we see every day. Flowers such as Water Hemlock are found all around the country, if even a small dose is ingested it can cause respiratory collapse and even death. These flowers are used as a metaphor for the danger that can hide beneath beauty and how not everything is what it seems.
