My work is related to the proliferation of data and the invisible nature of the digital world which exists all around us. This invisible world exhibits every perspective of life, what we want seen, but also that which we wish to forget. It speaks to global issues of propaganda and manipulation of data for political purposes, but also on a personal level through social media, chat rooms, etc. Both sides of the story exist almost like a parallel universe that can be revealed through the touch of a button.

Our online footprint remains within easy grasp, but can never be altered, only added to. This is referenced in my work through a layering process whereby physical paintings are scanned, and digitally layered repeatedly, raising the question, what is the true artwork, the original painting, or the digitally evolved work? Both are real, both exist, but the digital aspect takes on lifelike qualities in that it grows & evolves through my art practice while the original work remains static.

This led me to an investigation of Augmented Reality, which has become the third dimension of my work. In this case, there are no physical attributes to the work, which remains invisible unless ‘unlocked’ yet it surrounds the viewer nonetheless. It is only when the viewer enters this third dimension that they can experience that which existed all along, but they were oblivious to. The physical work, therefore, becomes a key to unlocking this invisible work.

The original, the digital, and the virtual are all interlinked, connected like cells in a larger organism of my artistic practice.
