the fog

the fog explores the visual language that surrounds Internet memes and symbols of digital culture that continues to develop online. Through my intentional removal of context around references and symbols, I am attempting to convey the absurdity of the world, particularly as a result of the Internet and its effects on our perceptions of reality.

‘the fog’ refers to a series of memes that warn of an ominous fog that is coming to consume the world, often in response to this awareness of the overwhelming absurdism of contemporary life.

My work aims to represent the way in which my thoughts and patterns of thinking have become increasingly visual and reference based, with so much of my life being so heavily influenced by the visual culture that exists on the internet and in popular culture. Through my fragmented use of found images and text, I portray the overwhelming burden of images and information that we are confronted with every day, unable to fully absorb or make sense of what we see.
