A self reflection on “ I love me, I love me not”

The main concept of my work is self exploration of my own femininity and growing into a young woman in today’s society. Throughout my work I wanted to explore my own personal journey through my struggles with mental health and self esteem. Although my pieces confirm to societal beauty standards when examined more closely there is a level of self exploration and the need to be desired. Being a woman in today’s society there is a pressure on us to fit certain beauty standards and levels of femininity to be seen desirable. Over the last 3 years I have worked with floral and feminine imagery which has helped me develop a better understanding of me and my art. I want my work to look aesthetically pleasing and beautiful to the eye but once you take a closer look there is a sense of self exploration and discovery. The use of hearts in my work celebrate the beauty of the feminine body which may be stigmatised. I have styled my pieces so that viewers can easily identify with the subjects.
