My work uses flowers as vessels to convey the emotions I wanted to express.  This body of work centres around regret – regret over choices I made in the past, decisions that could have changed my life and the grief that comes from choosing a particular path. It is something that everyone experiences at least once in their lives. I wanted to communicate these feelings through flowers and their decay.  The gradual degradation captures the essence of physical symptoms one might feel. I took inspiration from the victorians who used floriography to display emotions they could not openly communicate.   Working with photograms, I aimed to capture the essence of the flowers, while also creating a sense of moodiness or melancholy.  I wanted the work to remain somewhat ambiguous, allowing viewers the opportunity to interpret it for themselves.   It is envisaged that those familiar with the language of flowers would immediately recognise the intent.   Together the flowers symbolise emotional regret, which I thought was particularly fitting within this context. Displaying them side by side enhances this effect.
