Áine is a multi-disciplinary Artist. Utilizing painting, installation, and sculpture, she investigates the use of material to evoke an emotional response in the viewer. With mediums ranging from oil paint to paper mâché, her work involves magical realism and practical effects. Concerned with aesthetics including the absurd, the fantastic and the cute, leveraging their ability to create an emotionally charged viewing experience.
Áine uses her likeness as a device to create the characters seen in her paintings and photography. Dressing up and playing a role as a vehicle for world building. Her sculptures are designed to physically ground you in her desired reality.
Her work functions to explore narratives through dramatization. Instead of avoiding cliches, her work delves into it. Using it as an advantage and reinforcing the narrative through exaggeration. Exploiting aesthetic visuals to create a sense of security in the viewer. Creating abstract realities while maintaining a sense of familiarity, she elevates the ordinary and grounds the fantastic. She presents a visual and tangible environment, embedded with secrets to discover. Informed by her lived experiences, the performance of identity and emotional turbulence. It is a conversation, a back and forth of feeling and reaction.
An imitation of the internal consciousness through the lenses of a kaleidoscope. Intentionally resisting realism, prioritizing capturing the sensation of memory and experience rather than recreation.
Áine’s work extends an invitation to connect. It is a showcase of vulnerability and request for intimacy, embellished with theatrics, engrossed in colour, and covered in glitter.
