Conor McEvoy Dargan is a figurative painter from Laois whose work concerns the unspoken tension between figures in domestic spaces. This tension ebbs between romantic and platonic relationships, casting uncertainty on the viewer as to the nature of the connections depicted between figures.

Recurrent imagery of complex interpersonal relationships and the dramatization of domestic and night life through stylised and sometimes dreamlike compositions convey a queerness of both the self and space. This is semi-documentarian in nature, aiming to consume viewers in a zeitgeist of his early adulthood; the experience of transitioning from a rural to urban area, allusions to popular culture and media, queer temporality, and human connection in the isolating era of hedonistic consumption of the 2020’s.

His work is filmic, with his subjects embodying a protagonistic quality. Figures move through spaces with savoir-faire, illustrating the individuals’ belief that they are more than their environment, while simultaneously revelling in the reality of the Dionysian scenes they occupy. This encourages a feeling of yearning for the other; other people, other places, other times.
