The Girl And The Lightbringer
The Girl And The Lightbringer is a proof of concept short story that follows the life of a young girl who lives in a world without sunlight. This illustrated manuscript features the first act of a concept that will later become a full and completed novel.
Set in a fantasy world, the story explores the overarching theme of Climate Action through metaphorical means. In this world daylight is provided by a race of beings known as Lightbringers who are slowly becoming extinct much like many varieties of our own precious fauna today. The tale of The Girl And The Lightbringer asks the question, ‘To what end will we as humans take our greed? Even when we can see how we hurt ourselves with it.’
The featured artwork is entirely comprised of hand drawn, dip pen illustrations that have been painted using a combination of ink washes and gouache. These traditional mediums ground the visuals and tie into the naturalistic themes of the book.
