Traces of Him Left Behind
Traces of Him Left Behind focuses on a field in Skeirke, in rural Co. Laois. This location being of no major significance at first but to the artist it is an archaeological site filled with history, memory and traces of a presence left behind. The presence in question is of a consequential familial figure to the Artist, their Grandad. With his passing there were no letters, words of comfort or sentimental heirlooms left behind but a field of wooden sheds, a physical memory of the hard work once carried out by him. These sheds along with markers of John Moore’s presence within the landscape and the grief of a granddaughter are the catalyst for this project.
By engaging in Print Contemporary Practice and Lens Based Media the work evolved and eventually shifted focus to expanding the practice by incorporating found material from the site mainly discarded wooden pallets.
