As someone who found Tom Cardy as a great source of inspiration, and who’s also always wanted to make a music video, I jumped at the first opportunity to translate one of his older songs into animation.

The song is basically just a conversaton set to music, so it lends itself well to animation. With an infectious charm and lovable sarcasm in every moment. But because of the incredibly quick pacing, it was tricky to fit all of the jokes into it without having the animation step over itself, but it made me value the time I had to work with.

This is the greatest things I’ve ever had the pleasure of creating. And I hope that it can allow other people to discover his music and fall in love with it like I did.

I made this as a critique on myself for my poor decision making and lack of thinking things through. This is conveyed with a little fiend-goober that’s latched onto my forehead due to “losing a bet”. Starting from something relatable and quickly incorporating something crazy that basically nobody has gone through.

The short was also inspired from my serious confidence issues that used to really affect how I treated myself, but I figured I might as well turn something like that to something people can laugh at, drawing inspiration from slapstick comedy such as Looney Tunes and Tom and Jerry.

I also passed up the opportunity to make the assets with a laser cutter, instead opting to make all the assets by hand, this allowed me to have more control over how they looked. As well as making them closer to how I envisioned them during pre production.

I’m very happy with how it turned out. And projects like this make me want to keep trying out stop motion in the future.
