“The Space Between” explores the relationship between the body, memory, dreams and space, drawing from my own experience with chronic illness. Currently my studio practice explores the symbolism of houses and architectural forms as extensions of the body; vessels that, like skin and bone, contain emotion, memory, and the essentials of life. Collage, Print, Photography and Assemblage form a language of fragmentation, mirroring the non-linear, shifting nature of memory. Found objects within the sculptural form act as intimate vessels of memory and emotional imprints of the body across time and space.
Inspired by Juhani Pallasmaa’s writing on embodied perception, my work explores how space is experienced beyond vision but through touch, memory and presence. A sculptural assemblage plays with the idea of transition and balance, with the stair as a central motif. Exploring Peter Wollen’s idea that “the stair is the spine of the house,” it becomes a metaphor for movement, connection, and memory. “The Space Between” reflects on the invisible architecture of feeling, how spaces live within us, how the body leaves its imprint, and how personal histories can be held and reimagined through material form.
