Manhattan Memoirs

This project documents the summer I spent in New York in 2022. I had travelled abroad independently to work on a J1 visa for a once in a life-time experience. There was a sense of liberty in exploring new boundaries on my own terms. It was my first trip away from home and I found confidence in my new responsibility to make my own decisions and live independently. Stepping outside my comfort zone was overwhelming and exciting.

This body of work communicates an expressive and illustrative response through a collection of images and short anecdotal statements. They commemorate the fragile memory that I am trying to keep alive. Told through vivid colour and images on paper clay, this story demonstrates a timeline that highlight the events that carry sentimental value in which I do not want to lose. It was a dreamscape which I want to hold on to as it continues to fade through time.
