‘Sounds of Knocklong’: An Archive of Abandoned Spaces

My work is a site specific archive to the village of Knocklong in Co. Limerick.

I utilize field recordings and audio interviews as source material in order to change the context of how we view abandoned spaces or un-archived spaces in the village of Knocklong. I use these recordings to create radio art programs addressing issues of social dereliction by bringing these spatial narratives to life. In revealing the hidden histories of these spaces, I hope to give them a contemporary voice.

By actively participating within the community we redefine abandonment from dereliction, to participation and now in transformation, the space is now held in the present through an immersive journey of the past.
