Ciara is exploring her relationship with beauty and how she is affected by the beauty myth that is so prevalent in today’s society. We are a society obsessed with appearance and there is an ever-growing pressure to look and behave in certain ways. For women especially, there has always been a pressure to conform to particular beauty standards with an importance placed on femininity. The artist uses her work as a diary to articulate her obsession with appearance and dissatisfaction with her own image.
