For my fourth-year degree project, I have developed a one off 2D/3D short Animated film designed to give a quick glimpse into a typical day of ‘Monty’s’ life. ‘Monty’ is a postman who has had a series of upsets in recent times and here in his apartment at the end of a long day he has yet one more challenge to face, his disobedient dog ‘Albert’.
Choosing this character ‘Monty’, came from a long process of story development, character design work and background research. In my process of story development there were three main elements to the story I needed to consider, Character, Goal and Conflict. By creating this short I hope to have creatively included all three. Some interesting and appealing characters, an interesting storyline, a single goal to be achieved but one major obstacle standing in the way. This story is a sombre and almost sad story, highlighting some of the more upsetting sides to life.
Completing this 2D/3D animated short film I hoped to add to, and build on the skills I have acquired over the years of studying Digital Animation at LSAD Clonmel. This piece would be geared toward an adult and older teenage audience. While appealing to a niche market it shall lend to attracting employment when presenting this as part of my portfolio of work.
