‘There is salt in my bones, mountains in my lungs’

There is salt in my bones
mountains in my lungs
my chest; transparent like a jellyfish
light and quivering with trembling tendrils that contort and twist with each unexpected breath with each exhale my breath crystallises
spatial forms coalesce
refracting light back to the surface.

The idea that humans are made up of the materials from the interior of collapsing stars; is so profound that even the minute details of life become beautiful. My work explores the correlations between ecology, science, poetry, and art. Using poetry, I draw comparisons between my body and the ocean whilst challenging the viewer to think about our impact on the natural environment.

Humans have evolved from the sea, made of approximately 60% water; we traverse this planet with vast oceans inside us. This perspective on life is humbling, giving a sense of awe and gratitude inciting a sense of duty to preserve it. Drawing is used as a way of conveying these ideas and constructs a narrative in which my body is a self-contained world filled with oceans, mountains, and organic forms.
