Aisling’s work combines found objects, with her use of embroidery and mapping to explore memories and narrative.
Her work is informed by Ireland’s long tradition of storytelling and the rich culture of folklore which has been passed down throughout generations. Through her exploration she became particularly interested in her hometown of Castlegregory and the local historic culture and folklore which surrounds it. Her current practice is highly influenced by the traditional methods of patchwork as a means of preserving and sharing stories; the communal approach of combining various scraps of cloth to create one whole piece. She uses slow, intimate processes such as embroidery to integrate a personal element into her studio practice.
Through her work she aims to not only immerse the audience in the narratives presented, but also to open-up a conversation for the viewer to explore the hidden narratives that are all around us.
