Do You See What I Hear?
What do you mean you cannot see Tuesday as lime green or taste custard when the dog barks? Synaesthesia is an inherited trait that is best described as a “union of the senses” whereby two or more of the five main senses that are normally experienced separately are involuntarily and automatically joined together. Some people experience colour or taste when they hear sounds or read words while others experience smells, shapes or touches in almost any combination.
Do You See What I Hear? is a publication that highlights this hidden trait and explores just some of the experiences that synaesthetes live with. It opens the reader up to the idea that not everyone sees the world through the same eyes and that we are all wired differently. We as individuals each have a unique viewing lens which allows us to translate people, places and products slightly different from one another. Synaesthetes have the ability, for instance, to see words in colour or experience taste when hearing sounds. This publication aims to celebrate this intriguing quality while also highlighting the importance of never judging a book by its cover.
