The project “Unseen after Dark” was based on nightlife in the city. A study of what can go unnoticed, unobserved, the discrete episodes people do not want to be seen. I developed this project through observing everyday life in the city. Travelling through the town, allowing a wider vision and expanding beyond surface level. I ignored the aesthetics of the city, and focusing in on the hidden sides of society. I wanted to capture the blurred images of nightlife. Rather than merely looking at the ‘happy’ scenes, instead I chose to look at the individual moments, a pause in time to capture what goes unnoticed.
Blinding Noise
I have a deep emotional connection to “Blinding Noise”. The constant sounds and feelings of being overstimulated in everyday life can be overwhelming. Sensory overload can occur at any time, I portray this feeling within my works. I created a series of mixed media drawings using marks and repetitive dots to create a feeling of constant ongoing annoyance. The thousands of dots moving, twisting and turning feel uncontrollable and chaotic, similar to the overwhelming overload of emotions. Not knowing how it is going to turn or develop. My aim is to invoke this sense on imbalance and unease within others.
