Hidden Dangers: Beauty, Decay, and the Illusion of Safety

Hidden Dangers explores the uneasy tension between visual beauty and concealed threats in abandoned or overlooked spaces. Through a blend of digital drawing and paint, I depict these environments using vivid, saturated colours/ tones typically associated with hazard and warning.
Rather than repelling the viewer, these colours are used to create images that are striking and inviting. This visual contrast transforms spaces marked by decay, neglect, or environmental risk into captivating scenes that mask their underlying danger.
The project challenges how we interpret beauty and danger, questioning our instinct to trust what is visually appealing. By highlighting the hidden risks beneath the surface, the work becomes a broader commentary on perception, ignorance, and the consequences of aesthetic deception.
It encourages reflection on the ways we overlook or romanticize spaces that carry complex, often hazardous histories.
