Human Tides: The Anthropocene 

The Anthropocene refers to the period in which human activities have significantly impacted the Earth’s ecosystems and geology.  

As a contemporary visual artist, O’ Mahony explores her practice through an expanded form of painting taking inspiration from the pressing issues of the Anthropocene crisis, particularly focusing on raising awareness about the effects humans are having on aquatic ecosystems through art.  

Inspired by the beauty and intricacy of the aquatic environment, O’Mahony’s artwork serves as a poignant reminder of what is at stake. Through vibrant and immersive depictions of marine ecosystems, she aims to instil in her audience, a sense of wonder and appreciation for these fragile ecosystems.  

In the face of confronting the harsh realities of human induced damage, O’ Mahony challenges the viewers to recognise the critical necessity for environmental conservation. 

As she navigates the art world, O’Mahony remains determined in using her passion to advocate and push for positive change and Human Tides: The Anthropocene acts as a call to action before its too late.
