Memorama: The Flashback

Memorama: The Flashback expresses how photography operates both as a cultural artefact, and record of personal and intimate experience how we see the world. The work is based on the idea of a reversal of the traditional meaning of photography as a stimulus for memory.

I began with my own memories and using the idea of the network as a worldwide process I visualized my own memory with appropriated images from the Internet. Photographic images of places that were important to me, and portraits of people whom I have met during my life, are now seen through the lenses of cameras of anonymous people. They create a digital ghost of my biological existence.

Memorama is an attempt to re-archive my life while taking into account images from the vastness of what is not mine. Instead of using photographs to confirm memory I focus on the emotions and seek images that attempt to correspond with these emotions.

“The past can only stay in the picture, which appears suddenly and dispel forever the same moment in which consciousness appears”.

(Walter Benjamin, On the Concept of History).
