‘PUPA’ is an animated short depicting envy, perfectionism, and its destructive effects. Butterflies, often the symbol of beauty, do not start as the perfect specimens we admire. Their metamorphosis from a caterpillar to a beautiful butterfly happens in the pupa, where they melt their bodies down and rebuild themselves to perfection.

And where perfection exists, envy follows.

Envy is an archaic emotion. An amalgamation of the strongest feelings a person may feel. It is a carnal and destructive emotion that even humankind’s oldest religions warn against.

PUPA depicts the push and pull of both perfectionism and envy in the form of two dolls. One being the former favourite, and the other, a shiny new doll. The older doll’s envy starts as a sinking, impending doom of replacement, which eventually pushes her to the edge.

9 Squares: "I Like This Person"

Interpreting the 9 Square Brief by centering around the profound concept of “liking someone”, this collection comprises a series of concise animations simply depicting the intricate dynamics of the human heart and mind during the blossoming stages of infatuation. Each animation encapsulates the nuanced behaviours and bodily reactions that accompany the development of an infatuation with an individual, offering a profound visual exploration into the depths of human attraction and greed.

What Will F*ck Mizhqua Over!

This animation is in response to a project prompt to introduce oneself to an audience by papercraft while also being comedic.

The artist introduces themselves as not only potty-mouthed but also incredibly unlucky. This sheer bad luck is exaggerated with the concept of a game show, where every day something goes wrong. The only question is how.

As an animation student, the artist has encountered a unique set of inconveniences, ones they share with their community and peers, many of which happened during the filming of the short animation itself! From their USB corrupting to their paper assets being set on literal FIRE, this animation is a collective nod towards not only animation students but everyone who is unfortunately unlucky.
