MEGA Wrestling
MEGA Wrestling is a 3D animated love letter to the world of professional wrestling. Created as the in-universe intro to a fictional wrestling promotion, the Martian-Earth Grappling Alliance, which has all sorts of zany characters inspired by real life wrestling in its roster.
The short utilizes a unique moving plaid effect to pay homage to create striking visuals with recreations of in-ring action. I especially drew inspiration from my own time training as a pro wrestler, the works of Daniel Warren Johnson (chiefly on his pro wrestling mini-series Do A Powerbomb) and the passionate online community of my software of choice, Blender.
The core underline of the film beyond my love of the sport is fueled by something I believe in for both pro-wrestling and art: Earnestness and being willing to put your heart into what you are creating, especially in these times when so many are wholly focused on chasing clout and cynicism.
“People these days, it’s cool not to make an effort, it’s cool not to try. It’s cool not to put any emotion or have any feeling or have any boldness […] You can’t be afraid to fail or make a fool of yourself.” – mDotStrange, indie filmmaker
