The Wounded Healer, a video piece by Eimear Twomey, illustrates her family’s connection with the world of Irish folklore. Eimear’s family have had countless experiences with the paranormal and Irish folklore. She has felt the presence of lost loved ones many times, almost always showing themselves in the form of birds. She believes that the spirits borrow the bodies of the birds to send messages to the living. Eimear aims to showcase this idea in The Wounded Healer, creating a visual representation of how these spiritual encounters feel.
The video shows representations of the spirit world and the living world, following a shaman character as he tries to connect with the spirit world through birds. The way of the shaman is the way of the wounded healer, to be human is to be wounded. Focusing on healing through spiritual practice and folklore, the work contains elements of ritual, the journey of the shaman and the spiritual presence within the birds.
