Tinnitus is a medical condition which involves hearing phantom noises not caused by a person’s surrounding environment. The noises are often high pitched resembling a buzzing, ringing, hissing, or humming sound. There can be many different causes for tinnitus such as Ménière’s disease or a head/neck injury. Hearing loss is generally the most common reason for experiencing tinnitus. Subsequently if you or someone you know is experiencing tinnitus it’s important to get their hearing checked with an audiologist. Accessing support and advice can make a huge positive impact when dealing with tinnitus.

BUZZ is a short film about the experience of tinnitus, following a girl’s journey of dealing with the condition. She reimagines her tinnitus as a buzzing bee invading her brain, a broken cassette tape, a roaring lion, and a hissing snake. The intention of this short film is to help people who do not have tinnitus understand what it may feel like and also to help people who are dealing with it be able to relate to the content. Tinnitus is quite common, studies have shown around 1 in 4 people in Ireland experience this condition. Understanding what exactly tinnitus is, why it is happening, how to deal with it, and what it may be a symptom of is incredibly important.
