Graphic Design Communication

Katie McKenna

Heaven is an Irish Dancefloor

Nightlife in Ireland is often degraded and demeaned by the people in charge of upholding it. The magazine centres around the core concept of improving the perception of Irish nightlife among Ireland’s general population, it achieves this through its exploration of the history of Irish dancehall culture. Filled with photography showing every aspect of a night out, the magazine echoes the diverse experiences that happen on a night out and reinforces the idea that it is an important cultural phenomenon.

The magazine endeavours to highlight the contribution of the night-time industry to culture, community and the economy in Ireland, and to raise the quality of nightlife to international standards. It draws attention to the current debates and discussion about the licensing laws in Ireland, intending to influence legislative changes that lead to a more vibrant and profitable night-time industry.

Welcome

Welcome to RALLY the Limerick School of Art & Design Graduate Show of 2021 featuring the work of final year LSAD Graduates from Animation & Motion Design, Creative Broadcast & Film Production, Ceramic Design, Creative Media and Design, Digital Animation Production, Fashion Design, Fashion & Textiles for Product & Costume, Game Art & Design, Graphic Design Communication, Music Technology & Production, Painting, Photography Film Video, Print Contemporary Practice, Sculpture & Combined Media and Professional Masters of Education in Art and Design with Digital Media.

We chose RALLY to define this year characterising our collective student spirit. To rally is to rouse and come together to renew an effort. Rally is a call to action that is strong and celebratory. Our RALLY is an online celebration of a cohesive community.

Limerick School of Art and Design Graduate Show 2021 takes the form of an online showcase to celebrate the resilience, creativity and brilliance of our final year students. Our LSAD Graduate Showcase is a platform for our graduates and their work, and is part of a growing LSAD archive of student work now in its 7th edition. This year we also commissioned three films to document and celebrate the work of our students across the three Departments

Digital Media and Arts ¦ Steve Hall https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eSQLrehitok
Fine Art and Education ¦ Shane Vaughan https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VdvRTk53H7Q
Design ¦ Pat Freeley and Leanne Dooley https://youtu.be/shYKJdJWHA8

For the second time we present our graduate work solely on virtual platforms. The shock of the pandemic has faded and now we reflect our interaction with the world in new ways. Achieving the learning outcomes in ways that would have seemed impossible previously.     It has been a tremendous challenge for our students and staff to adapt to these new circumstances. We are overwhelmed by the creativity and tenacity of our students who have accomplished so much in these constrained circumstances.

We would like to thank all those who helped make it happen this year in challenging circumstances. We applaud each of our dedicated Academics, our ever reliant Technical Team, Administrators and support staff, most importantly the 2021 graduates.
