Stell de Burca

Stell is a trans and nonbinary artist from a small rural town in Co. Galway. They began their transition during their second year of college at LSAD. Art has been a form of documentation and exploration for them during this experience. Above all else they strive for authenticity and honesty. With a focus on meticulous detail, nothing gets left out.

During a time where the topic of the trans community is considered controversial or a hot button topic, their goal is to make this topic more accessible to people and less intimidating.

Using traditional oil painting and comic book elements to tell a story of a trans character. To highlight the daily struggle they have condensed the process of transitioning into the time span of getting ready in the morning.

A note from the artist:

To the people who don’t have any connection to the trans community or feel they don’t quite understand it:  we don’t have an agenda, we are simply trying to be ourselves and find our authenticity. We are not trying to take away from the importance of your labels and identity but rather trying to find our self expression in a body that doesn’t belong to us.

And to my fellow trans people: you have to keep living. You are not alone. I love you I love you I love you, keep going! <3
