A hair-in-mouth experience leads an egocentric boyfriend to develop a new-found phobia

My name is James Stack. For my fourth-year studio project, I proposed to deliver a 2D animated psychological thriller short film which focuses on the theme of fear, particularly phobias such as Chaetophobia and Peladophobia. Other implications would be symptoms associated with anxiety and depression. With this short, I intend to metaphorically highlight the awareness of the condition, alopecia areata. A chronic autoimmune disease that attacks the hair follicles in your body, resulting in hair loss. The condition itself can be esthetical shattering to most victims, their families and their loved ones, leaving them to develop mental conditions such as anxiety and depression due to the result of fear.

This short is to artistically demonstrate how people may unknowingly act towards the disease from another person’s perspective and suggest some psychological trauma that the disease may cause.

I intend this project to be a great example of my work and become a major addition to my portfolio package and showreel. I now intend to showcase this animation to potential future employers and submit it as an entry into multiple filming and animation festivals.
