Baseline

Functional vessels have always had a significant place in the household. Looking back to the ornaments on display in my ancestor’s home, a china tea set was central to the display cabinet, offering functionality and decoration. Aesthetic arrangement of everyday objects from still life to country cabinet was a core feature in my initial inspiration.

The functional domestic object has a significant place in art history, through considered arrangement in the carefully composed traditional still life. My work builds upon this idea of compositional objects, functional when apart, decorative when together. Taking inspiration from the minimalist ethos of ‘less is more’, I explore still-life through my functional tea sets where placement of every element is considered. The Geometric vessel forms are minimal in design yet complemented by the addition of linear surface decorations that echo traditional object forms and suggest a curated composition for display.
