Styles of writing

My goal for the project was to look back on my experiences with writing
scripts and to research common scriptwriting techniques and formulas,
in order to understand what makes for an interesting script. The actual
work involved in this project would be for me to write at least two
separate scripts. One would be before I had done my research and the
other would be after I had done it. I would then compare and contrast
what works and doesn’t work about them.
During my research, I came across the works of Joseph Campbell and
George R.R. Martin. They both had given information about
commonalities and methods of storytelling, respectively.
Campbell describes the ‘Hero’s Journey’, and how a protagonist, or
‘main character’ whose perspective we follow, navigates a narrative.
Facing trials and tribulations, growing and changing, until they become
a different person by the end of the story.
Martin describes his writing as ‘Gardening’ and involves purposefully
writing characters from multiple different perspectives, often being
unreliable narrators, with believable flaws that are born from
backstories and childhoods that adhere to the worldbuilding and
history, in which the writing takes place.
