‘‘It is only in Nigeria that you will drive someone to the airport and the person will get to London before you get home cos of traffic.’’
This S/S19 collection is influenced by Nigeria and the people who live there. Vivian was born in Lagos and moved to Ireland when she was very young. As a designer, she knew she wanted to mix both cultures together which is evident in her work. She looked into traffic jams in Lagos, Nigeria as an interesting topic to take patterns and silhouette from.
Vivian uses Irish crochet and takes patterns from the chaos of Lagos street traffic. Using the traditional Nigerian method of tie-dyeing called ‘Adire’. Vivian enjoys using 100% cotton yarn and woven silk. This womenswear collection designed for an independent woman who takes pride in her appearance and enjoys luxury materials. She likes to portray her past in Nigeria and her present in Ireland in her designs.
