Urban Wanderings

The images I capture are real and direct extracts from the everyday world. The main objective being to rediscover the very act of looking through the consideration and appreciation of what is around us. It is a record of real life, a chronicle of everyday existence.

My work engages a psychogeographical approach and can be linked to the idea of a dérive (French word meaning ‘drift’) where one takes an unplanned journey through a landscape while being subconsciously guided by the surroundings with the aim of encountering a new experience.

Throughout this ongoing project I have built up a large collection of images concentrating on the subject matter of the everyday and questioning space.

My work involves exploring my surroundings and photographing the journey I take. Urban spaces and landscapes are examined in less obvious ways and are often developed into more abstract images. Consisting of minute details of walls, surfaces, lines and shapes, the images are often quite formally composed while still embodying the everyday aesthetic.

Shot in an incidental manner, it is unknown what will be captured next. Within this ever-growing archive of images, the various ways in which each image can relate to the next is consistently open to change.
