Sinéad Gavigan’s work is constructed in direct response to the architecture of the space it is situated within. Investigating familiar locations within buildings which are perceived as inconsequential, Sinéad has developed and designed 3D in-situ artworks, whose bold characteristics transform these forgotten areas and demand the attention of those who enter the space.
These mathematically configured constructions, derived from specific sequences of stripes and colours to convert 2D drawings into 3D forms, depend immensely on the communication between their location and the factors which compose their overall aesthetic. The marrying of elements such as colour and pattern with the positioning of waves collaborate to project optically pleasing and illusionistic effects upon the viewer. These illusionistic qualities developed within the concentrated process of construction are altered in relation to the perception of each individual and promotes the visual engagement of those who observe.
These minimalistic structural forms are a result of investigating, evolving and continually pushing the limits of Sinead’s artistic practice to create a body of work which engages with every component of its environment.
