Saoirse O’Connor

leave me alone, but don’t forget me

Saoirse O’Connor’s final year works depict the artists envy of the derelict buildings they have came across. The project is an exploration of how beautifully things can develop when left alone and in order to develop to their full potential the artist must overcome their fear of being forgotten. Having been left to be forgotten, these buildings were able to develop into unique sculptural structures, used only by the earth to continue its cycles, breaking up the monotonous void of the surrounding cities or countryside.  They are former shelters now standing as a reminder, calling to us to take a moment to recognise our shared history as-well as our individual personal evolution. O’Connor explore’s these buildings and the elements that highlight their unique history, striving to capture how colourful and rich forgotten pieces of ourselves and our surroundings can be.  Buildings bursting with flora offer a moment of stillness and hope, particularly when surrounded by the blur of modern living. These sanctuaries invite us to be introspective and recognise the role our foundations play in how we explore and understand our roles in life, the artist aims to highlight their beauty and importance while they aid in Saoirse’s development as an artist and a human.
