ABANDONED INTERACTION

This body of work deals primarily with the idea of the human presence within a space and the interaction between the figure and their surroundings.

Drumbeg House in Inver, Co. Donegal is an abandoned site which once was a hotel seeing many people pass through it daily. After many attempts to rebuild and refurbish the building had been left to ruin. When documenting the house in its current state, standing in the halls of that building where many had walked before, it brought an uneasiness and an eeriness thinking of all those people.

Through the documentation of the space and the destruction and damage which implied human presence, prior to the visit, I decided to re- introduce the physical figure back into the space. Having chosen the more interactive areas of the building, stairs, hallways, doors, etc., then placing the figure throughout the setting multiple times a narrative was created within the scene, almost as if it was a scene from a film caught as a still. The documentation of the navigation of the figure around the space depicted on such a large scale is intended to make the viewer feel as though they are part of this journey, as if they have just stepped right into the scene, interacting with it also, making them a part of the history.
