As humans we are all susceptible to sickness and illness. At the heart of the work is the representation of a world of competing meanings where the body is vulnerable and incapable of overcoming all challenges, prompting questions of mortality. Death is something we cannot escape, control or deny yet for most it remains an unacceptable idea.
This sequence of work investigates the ambivalent relationship between the sick body and medical practice, by engaging with my own body and related medical experiences. Through exploring co-existing and competing meanings of fear, relief, control, hope and uncertainty stemming from corporeal and emotional experiences results in a combination of invented and real experiences presented as reality. Arousing thoughts on what it means to be human my photography acts as a visual language to understand communicate and control uncertainty.
