Gozan A/W 17

“To know oneself is to study oneself in action with another person”

My collection is inspired by Tomoe Gozan, the first Japanese female samurai of the 12th century. After examining Gozan’s journey from a beautiful geisha girl into a vicious and brutal samurai fighter, I began studying the activity, movement and motion of a samurai fighter in action. I explored how the warrior moves in battle and discovered the samurais guiding compass which the body must undertake to ensure a solid kill. I aimed to incorporate an innovative cut and intelligent drafting as well as challenging the line and form of the pieces, to convey the warrior’s directional movement throughout my collection.

Work Experience: Ratna Ho. Arnhem, the Netherlands.
