Embodied Fragments

Molly Kane explores the phenomenology of the body through a personal lens shaped by chronic pain, social anxiety and the struggles of forming an identity. This project is rooted in a desire to externalize invisible internal stress and vulnerability using raw, gestural mark-making and unconventional materials, such as liquid latex.

The works in this series hover between figuration and abstraction, which reflects Kane’s interest in ambiguity and the unresolved. Areas are often left visibly unfinished with line work exposed, which relates to Kane’s experience of feeling disconnected and fragmented. The figures are also restricted and confined within the limits of the canvas depicting psychological pressures and tension.

Ultimately, this series is a means of self exploration using visual material language to articulate difficult feelings beyond words. It offers a space in which internal experiences become tangible through distortion, layering and the depiction of vulnerable bodies. The work becomes an embodiment of fragments.
